Ted Szajewski was instrumental in promoting the idea of establishing a Community Foundation in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region.  He understood the building of permanent endowment funds and the concept of using the revenue from the investments to support local charities.  He promoted this idea to Mayor and council and played a lead role in securing one of the first major gifts to the Community Foundation from the Cities of Kenora and Keewatin.  Ted has stayed active in the Community Foundation movement by chairing and serving on the Dragon Boat Festival Committee.  He remains one of our strongest supporters and best ambassadors.

Kenora – August 11, 2008

Kenora’s own hockey superstar will be lacing up his skates this week with one hundred and fifteen aspiring hockey stars. For the third year in a row, his hockey camp, which is partnered with Hockey Canada and operates out of the Keewatin Arena in Kenora, is sold out.  Youngsters aged 5 to 12 will have the opportunity to improve their hockey skills, while skating alongside their hometown hero.  Mike Richards is giving the proceeds from his camp to establish a permanent endowment fund at the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation.  Income from the fund will benefit the community forever.  Mike’s gift to the community goes beyond the creation of the endowment fund; he is donating his time and skills to the camp free of charge.

Thanks Mike!
